[Windows 10] How to perform recovery (re-setup/initialization)

Precautions

  • Data will be lost when recovery is performed. If you have important data, please back it up in advance.
  • We recommend you to create recovery media in advance. When you perform the following procedures, harddisk/SSD recovery territory info will be rewritten, and may not be able to perform recovery from harddisk/SSD recovery territory.
    • Use app that operates partition
    • Install OS other than the one that was installed during shipment
  • Please disconnect all peripherals other than the device and power cable needed for recovery.
  • Music data managed in music playing app and copyright protection data may not be played when recovery is performed, even when they are saved in the same place as before. Please refer to the app’s help file, etc., in advance.
  • Before performing recovery for models with TPM security chip loaded, please decrypt encrypted data prior to backup.
  • If you perform recovery by using TPM function and having the data still encrypted, encrypted data cannot be read.
  • If you perform recovery by using Windows encrypting function and having the data still encrypted, encrypted data cannot be read. Please decrypt prior to recovery. Please note that data that could not be recovered cannot read.
  • If you cannot perform recovery from recovery territory, recovery must be performed from the recovery media you have created in advance.
  • If you have not created recovery media in advance, you will need to purchase recovery media or repair for fee will be needed, so we recommend that you create recovery media in advance.
  • If using “Office”, you will need to install and activate after you perform recovery. Product key is needed to install and activate. Product key is noted on the product key card that is bundled.

 


If recovering by deleting all settings/files

Operational procedures

  1. The following screen will be displayed if you operate in this order: Windows > Settings > Update & security > Recovery, so select [Get started] button under “Reset this PC”.1080-1
  2. [Choose an option] screen will be displayed, so select [Remove everything].
    If you have selected [Keep my files], refer to procedure “If recovering by leaving your files”.1080-2
  3.  [Do you want to clean the drivers, too?] screen will be displayed, so select [Remove files and clean the drive].1080-3
  4. [Ready to reset this PC] screen will be displayed, so select [Reset] button.1080-4
  5. Once recovery is complete, [Hi there] screen will be displayed, so perform PC’s initial setup.
    If 「TPM configuration change was required to State:」 screen is displayed when Windows will restart during recovery,
    select[Reject]and press Enter key.1080-5

All operations are now complete.


If recovering by leaving your files

Operational procedures

  1. [Choose an option] screen will be displayed, so select [Keep my files].1080-6
  2. [Ready to reset this PC] screen will be displayed, so select [Reset] button.1080-7
  3. Login screen will be displayed when recovery is complete.1080-8
