[How to check the BIOS version] While the PC is off press and hold the F3 or F4 key and press the power button. This will bring up the “VAIO Rescue Mode” screen.
Select the Start BIOS setup.
While the BIOS setup menu is displayed select “system information”. This will bring up the BIOS version info.

Notes
Please disable or suspend Drive Encryption (such as BitLocker).
Please ensure that the AC adapter is connected to the PC and it is plugged in.
Please remove all the peripheral devices.
Please ensure that you are signed in as the “Administrator of the computer” or are able to run programs as the “Administrator”.
Your username must have been registered using alphanumeric characters. If you are using double-byte characters and spaces in the user name, please create a new account with the username comprised of alphanumeric characters.
Please close all running applications.
Please disable all running software including antivirus programs.
Please ensure that the PC stays on in an operational state during the update. Sleep, Hibernate, and Standby modes may affect the installation.
Please do not turn off or allow the PC to turn off during the update.
You may receive a “User Account Control” notification when attempting to run the executable. Please select [OK] to continue.
If a [User account restriction] or [Opened file – security alert] dialog boxes appear while it’s still processing, refer to their contents, and continue with the process by following the instructions shown in the boxes.
Please ensure that you are applying this update to the correct model of PC. If you attempt to install this update on an incorrect model, the update will fail.

How to apply the program
Please close all of the applications that are running in Windows.
Open the folder where you downloaded the update file and double-click the [SP000179.exe] executable.
A notification will appear that asks you to be sure that your encryption software is disabled. If you have disabled your encryption software, please select the [OK] button to proceed.

Please Note:
If encryption software, such as BitLocker Drive Encryption is enabled, please interrupt the update by clicking the Cancel button. Disable the encryption, and start the update program again.

A dialog box will be displayed on the screen titled “VAIO Firmware Update Tool”, please be sure to read the contents of this dialogue box and click [Update] to proceed.
A notification will appear that states: you will need to restart the PC to update the firmware/BIOS. Please click [OK] to proceed. The update will begin upon restart of the machine, and when finished the PC will automatically shut down.

Please Note:
A restart is performed automatically at the end of the update; please do not restart until the update operation is finished.
During the BIOS update, you may notice that your on-board fan is no longer running. Please be patient the fan should start up again.
It may take a few minutes the BIOS update to be applied.
Please ensure that the AC adapter is connected to the PC and it is plugged in.
Please ensure that the PC does not turn off during the update process.
This completes the update process.

How to check the program application completion
Please close all of the applications that are running in Windows.
Open the folder where you downloaded the update file and double-click the [SP000179.exe] executable.
A notification will appear that asks you to be sure that your encryption software is disabled. Please select the [OK] button to proceed.
“The system firmware is current, and does not need an update.” When you see this, you have successfully updated your BIOS.
