How to display your PC screen on your TV

  • In situations where your computer model has an HDMI output terminal, you can display your screen on your TV by using an HDMI cable to connect your VAIO computer to your TV that has an HDMI input terminal.

Please refer to the following for operation procedures.

Reference

If you are sending a video signal to an external display with Full HD (1920×1080) resolution, the corresponding display will show “1080i” or “1080p”.
In such cases, the video will be displayed without any issues if the television has a compatible 1080i or 1080p display.
The different terms (1080i and 1080p) refer to how the image is drawn on the screen, with the “i” standing for interlaced and “p” standing for progressive.  Interlacing draws the screen using alternating odd and even lines, which allows it to draw the screen faster but can sometimes look like the screen is blinking to the human eye.  Progressive will draw the screen 1 line at a time, which takes longer but appears more clearly.  As the images refresh slowly, video with fast action can appear to be skipping.

  1. Connect VAIO and TV with HDMI cable.

Precautions

Please refer to the following precautions when connecting.

  • In HDMI connection, any video including contents protected by copyright of HDCP standard spec (terrestrial digital broadcasting, and DVD video and blu-ray disc in market) cannot be displayed on both the computer screen and the external display (mirror mode).
  • If you connect your computer to a plasma screen, it can burn-out the screen. If there is no sound coming out when the TV is connected to the HDMI OUT connector, please refer to the following links and switch the output destination of sound to digital output.

The location of the connecting terminal can vary depending on which VAIO computer you have, so please refer to instructions manual or online manual for details.

  1. Change the TV’s input channel to “external input”.
Please refer to the TV’s instructions manual for how to change your TV settings.
  2. Switch the computer display to TV.
Please refer to the following Related Q&A for operational procedures.

How to display your PC screen on an external display (LCD projector)
The following computer models can have their video signal projected on an external display (LCD projector) that has a VGA input terminal.

  • Computer models with a VGA output terminal
  • Computer models that come bundled with VGA adapter
  • Depending on the external display model, the external screen may not be able to be displayed at the same time as VAIO’s LCD screen (mirror mode).

Please refer to VAIO’s instructions manual for details.

  1. Connect VAIO and external display (LCD projector).

Precautions

Please refer to the following precautions when connecting.

  • Turn off both your VAIO computer and the device you are connecting to.  Disconnect the AC adapter and power cable from outlet to fully cease all power to the machines.  Then connect the systems to one another (with the power still off).
  • Once all other connections are finished, then please connect the power cable to your machines.
  • When turning the power on, turn on all other devices (such as the LCD projector) before turning on your VAIO computer.
  • Depending on the external display or projector models, you may not be able to display the video on both the external screen and the VAIO LCD screen (mirror mode).
  • LCD projectors come in two kinds: data projectors which are mainly used in business for presentations and video projectors which work as a home theater.
  • Your computer’s horizontal and perpendicular frequencies will vary depending on the external display (LCD projector).
  • Please refer to the external display’s (LCD projector) instructions manual for horizontal and perpendicular frequencies.
  • The video’s displayed resolution will vary depending on the external display (LCD projector). Please refer to the external display’s (LCD projector) instructions manual for available displayed resolution.

The location of your connecting terminal can vary by VAIO model, so please refer to instructions manual or online manual for details.

  1. Switch the display to external display (LCD projector).
