Description
The original drivers and software that are pre-installed in the VAIO laptops are available from the original driver software page in the “update programs” section of each Vaio computer model.  Please follow the directions on the website when installing.

Please Note
If you want to re-install the drivers and software, please first uninstall the existing drivers.

  • If you do not uninstall the drivers before reinstalling them, you may get an error during installation and your device may be unstable.
  • Please make sure to install not just the driver you are looking for, but any additional drivers that may be associated with that function.

  • Make sure you are logged in as an administrator when you are installing drivers. You may receive an “Open File Security” message if you are not logged in as an admin, additionally, if the account you are using has a space, double-byte characters, or any special characters in the user name, please create a new account with a user name out of alphanumeric characters.
  • When you download the driver into a folder with alphanumeric characters in the folder name.  If the folder name has any spaces, double-byte characters, or special characters in it, the driver might not run properly.

How to install a driver from a .zip file

If the downloaded file extension is .zip, please use the following procedure:

1. Please close all applications running on Windows.
2. Right-click the downloaded file and choose “Extract All” from the menu that appears.
3. When the dialog box reads “compression deployment of (ZIP format) folder”, make sure the box is checked to display the files that have been unzipped.
4. Double click the “install.vbs” file in the expanded folder.
5. Please be patient.  The installation should start automatically in a moment.

Please Note

  • If a command prompt appears and you do not have the operation of a keyboard, close the screen.  You may not be able to perform this installation without the keyboard.
  • The installation can take some time.  Please be patient.
  • Never turn off the power to the computer during an installation.
  • Depending on the program, you may see a dialog box that reads “Open File Security Warning” during the installation.
  • Please confirm the contents and then leave the program to continue installing.
  • If the installation does not start, there are times when this dialog box is hidden in other windows.  Please look for a dialog box by checking the icons on your taskbar.  If it is listed there, please open it up and check the contents of the window so the installation can continue.

6. When the computer offers the prompt, “Installation was completed successfully.  Please restart the Computer,” please select “OK”.
7. Please restart your computer.

Please Note

  • If a message appears that reads “To apply these changes you will need to restart the computer,” please select “restart now”.
  • After restarting your computer, if the dialog box “Open File Security Warning” appears and the programs listed are associated with the drivers you have installed, please select “run”

How to install a driver from a .exe file

If the downloaded file has an extension that ends with .exe, please follow the following procedure:

1. Please close all applications running on Windows.
2. Double-click the downloaded file to start the executable program.
3. If a dialog box appears, select “OK”.  In some cases, the dialog box does not display.
4. If the use account control screen appears, select “Yes” and the installation can begin.

Please Note

  • Until you see the dialog box that reads “Installation was completed successfully,” please be patient and do not operate the computer.
  • If the dialog box is displayed, please follow the directions to complete the installation.
  • If the dialog box that appears asks about “uninstalling”, you already have the drivers or the software on your computer.  If you want to re-install the drivers, uninstall the drivers or programs first.
  • If a command prompt appears and you do not have a keyboard connected to this device, stop the installation.  You may not be able to perform this installation without the keyboard.

5. When the message reads “Installation was completed successfully.” please select the “OK” button.
6. Please restart your computer.

  • If a message appears that reads “To apply these changes you will need to restart the computer,” please select “restart now”.
