• With the VAIO powered off, hold down the F3 or F4 key and press the power button. ”VAIO” rescue mode will appear.
• Select [Launch BIOS Settings].
• BIOS setup menu will appear, so please check the “ME Version” in “System Information”.

• Disable or temporarily suspend device or drive encryption (BitLocker, etc.).
• Be sure to connect the AC adapter and power cord to the device.
• Remove all peripheral devices.
• Please sign in to Windows as “Computer Administrator” or “Administrator” user.
• The user name must be registered with single-byte alphanumeric characters. If your username contains double-byte characters or single-byte space, please create a new account with a username using only single-byte alphanumeric characters.
• Close all running applications.
• Please temporarily stop the resident software such as antivirus software.

How to apply the program

1. Close all applications running on Windows.
2. Open [PC (computer)] – [Local disk (C:)] – [Update] folder (folder where you downloaded the file) and double click the [SP000272.exe] file.
3. The message “Notice: For customers using encryption software” will appear, so select “OK” if encryption is disabled.

Cautions

If encryption such as BitLocker Drive Encryption is enabled, please click [Cancel] to interrupt the update. Please disable encryption before applying this update program.

4. Dialog box “VAIO ME / FW Update Tool 3.1.0.12220” will appear, so please confirm the contents of “!!! Attention !!!” and click “Update”.

5. The message “Do you want to update Firmware?” will appear, so click [OK]. The update will start.

Cautions

1. While updating ME Firmware, FAN may rotate, or it may not respond, but please wait for a while. ME Firmware update may take several minutes.
2. Make sure that the AC adapter is connected and never turn off the computer while updating.
3. The message “Firmware update completed successfully. Press OK to shut down the system.” will appear, so select [OK]. The PC will shut down automatically.

How to confirm completion of the program

1. Close all applications running on Windows.
2. Open [PC (computer)] – [Local disk (C:)] – [Update] folder (folder where you downloaded the file) and double click the [SP000272.exe] file.
3. The message “Notice: For customers using encryption software” will appear, so select “OK”.
4. It was updated successfully if the message “It has already been upgraded. There is no need to upgrade the version.” appears.

Download procedures

1. Prepare a folder to store the downloaded file. Here, the folder will be named “Update” and created on the C drive. *Please use only single-byte alphanumeric characters for the folder’s name. The program cannot run correctly if you use double-byte characters, half-width spaces, special characters, etc.
2. Confirm the “Software License Agreement”, click the [Agree and Download] button, and download the update program to the folder created in 1.
3. After downloading the program, apply the program by referring to the above “Program application procedure”.
4. After applying the update program, delete the “Update” folder created in 1.
