Explanation
You can create copies of data files of all users using the PC.
For which files should be backed up, you can either have the PC decide automatically, or manually indicate yourself.
As a default, backups will be created according to a schedule periodically.
After the first backup is created, added or modified info will be backed up from the second backup and on.

The following files cannot be backed up:
 

  • Program file (files registered in registry as program component, at the time of installing program)
  • Files saved on a hard disk that is formatted by FAT file system
  • Files inside Recycle Bin
  • Temporary files within a drive that the capacity is below 1GB

You need PC administrator’s rights in order to perform the following operations:
 

  • Log on through user account that has PC administrator’s privilege.
  • Also, if you operate while logging on as standard user, [User account restriction] screen will show, and will be asked to enter administrator account’s password.
  • Once you enter the password, you can continue the operation.
  • Copyright protected contents such as digital broadcasting and music data will not be backed up correctly through operation noted in this article.
  • They will need to be backed up individually within software.
  • Please refer to each software’s instructions manual on how to back up.

When backing up files for the first time
Operation procedures

  • As an example, the following procedures guide you on how to back up on DVD media.

Contents to be displayed may vary depending on the back up saving destination.

1. Click [Start] button, and click [Control panel].

2. [Control panel] screen will be displayed, so click [Create back up] under [System and security].

3. [Backup and restore] screen will show, so click [Back up setting] button.

4. [Select back up saving destination] screen will show, so choose the destination from the [Save back up in the following] list, and click [Next] button.

  • For this example, select [DVD-RW drive].

 

Reference
If saving within network, indicate saving destination through the following procedure.
Destinations within network where you can save back up are only within PC that operates under Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 7 Professional.
You cannot save back up within network for Windows 7 Home Premium, so [Save on network] button will not show.

Operation procedures

  1. Click [Save on network] button from [Select back up saving destination] screen.
  2. [Select network place] screen will show, so click [Refer] button.
  3. [Refer folder] screen will show, so select back up saving destination, and click [OK] button.
  4. It will return to [Select network place] screen, so enter [User name] and [Password], and click [OK] button.

5. [Subject to backup] screen will show, so check either [Auto select] or [Select myself].

  • In this example, select [Auto select].

 

Reference

  • The followings will be included in backup, if you selected [Auto select].
  • Data files saved within library used by all users that have accounts for this PC, within desktop, and within default Windows folder
  • For files within library, only local files will be included in backup.
    Within standard Windows folder, AppData, address book, desktop, downloads, favorites, links, saved games, and search are included.
  • If the backup saving destination is formatted by NTFS file system and has enough open capacity, user program, Windows, all drivers, and system image including registry setting are included in backup.
  • If you selected [Select myself], then [Subject to backup] screen will show, so check preferred item and click [Next] button.
  • All files in known system folder and known program file (file registered in registry as program component at the time of installing program) will not be backed up even if they are within the selected folder.
    Also, unselected folder and driver contents will not be backed up.

 
6. [Verify back up setting] screen will show, so click [Save setting and perform back up] button.
 

Reference

  • In initial setting, it is set to perform backup on “Every Sunday at 7PM”. If you want to disable, please refer to [How to disable auto back up].
  • If you click [Change schedule], [Frequency of backup] screen will show, so you can change the setting of schedule. If the PC power is off at the scheduled time, the schedule function will not perform. In this case, file backup will be performed once the PC is turned on.

 
7. After a while, the following balloon message will show in the notified territory, so click the message.
Contents of message:
“Please insert removable media. You will either need CD/DVD drive or USB drive, in order to continue Windows backup. Please connect necessary drive.”

8. The message “Please put label on blank media and insert” will show, so on the label, write down the name indicated within the message, and click [OK] button.
 

Reference

  • If it shows the message “Would you format the media?” after inserting the media, then click [Format] button.
  • When media is formatted, all data within the media will be deleted. It will take several minutes to format the media.

 
9. Backup will start.

10. Once backup is completed, “Windows backup has completed successfully” message will show, so click [Close] button.

All operations are now complete.

The [Backup and restore] screen, the [Backup now] button will show.

When backing up files from 2nd time and on
Operation procedures

  • As an example, the following procedures guide you on how to back up on DVD media.

Contents to be displayed may vary depending on the back up saving destination.

1. In the DVD drive, insert the media you created in the previous backup.

  • If the [Auto play] screen is shown, close the screen.

 

Reference
If you don’t have the DVD media that you used in the previous backup, you can create new backup on new DVD media, if you click [Create new total backup] in [Backup and restore] screen.

  • [Create new total backup] will show in [Backup and restore] screen only when you are saving backup into CD/DVD media.

 
2. Click [Start] button, and click [Control panel].

3. [Control panel] screen shows, so click [Create backup] in [System and security].

4. [Backup and restore] screen will show, so click [Backup now] button.

5. It will show [Backup is in progress].

All operations are now complete.

Once backup is complete, [Backup now] button will appear in [Backup and restore] screen.

 


How to change setting for file backups
Operation procedures
1. Click [Start] button and click [Control panel].

2. [Control panel] screen will show, so click [Create backup] in [System and security].

3. [Backup and restore] screen will show so click [Change setting].

4. [Select backup saving destination] screen will show so select preferred saving destination from [Save backup to following], and click [Next] button.

  • In this example, select [DVD RW drive].

 

Reference
If saving on network, please indicate saving destination through following procedures.
Destinations within network where you can save back up are only within PC that operates under Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 7 Professional.

6. [Verify backup setting] screen will show, so click [Save setting and end] button.

  • In the [Select backup saving destination] screen, if you selected a backup destination different from what you have been previously using, then [Save setting and perform backup] button will appear instead of [Save setting and end] button. Backup will start if you click [Save setting and perform backup] button.

 

Reference 

  • In initial setting, it is set to perform backup on “Every Sunday at 7PM”.

Upon the next start-up backups will be created based on the modified settings.
 


How to disable auto-backup
Operation procedures
1. Click [Start] button, and click [Control panel].

2. [Control panel] screen will show, so click [Create backup] in [System and security] screen.

3. [Backup and restore] screen will show, so click [Disable the schedule] located on the left side of the screen.

All operations are now complete.

In the [Schedule] column, [None. Select [Backup now] and manually perform backup.] will show.
